The National Electoral Commission (NEC), together with the Boundaries Committee, officially launched the distribution of voter registration cards in Hodan District today, advancing preparations for the upcoming local elections.
At the launch event, Mohamed Amin Hassan, Chairperson of the NEC Operations Subcommittee, underscored the importance of civic engagement. “We call on all Somali citizens to come forward and collect their voter cards, ensuring they can exercise their right to vote in the forthcoming elections,” he said.
Among the residents attending the launch was Abdikarin Ali, a person with special needs, who expressed appreciation for the commission’s efforts. “I was able to collect my voter card with ease. I commend the commission for making the services accessible to everyone in Hodan,” he noted.
The NEC has already carried out similar voter card distribution campaigns in seven other districts within Banadir Region. The commission confirmed that residents of the capital will be eligible to participate in the Banadir Regional Council elections, scheduled for the 25th of next month.
This distribution campaign forms part of the commission’s broader initiative to ensure a transparent, inclusive, and accessible electoral process, enabling all eligible citizens to participate fully in shaping the country’s democratic future.
