Somaliland’s State Minister for Security Addresses Shooting Incident Near Egal Airport

Hargeisa The State Minister of Somaliland’s Ministry of Security, Munasar Abdirahman Ahmed, has addressed the shooting incident that occurred earlier today near Egal International Airport in Hargeisa.

The minister confirmed that the gunshots heard in the area were warning shots fired into the air, emphasizing that no one was harmed in the incident. According to him, the situation arose following a disagreement between security forces stationed at the airport and civilians accompanying former President Muse Biixi Abdi, who allegedly attempted to force their way into the airport premises.

Minister Munasar underlined that the Ministry of Security holds deep respect and honor for all former national leaders, noting that they deserve dignity and recognition at all times.

He further revealed that a special investigative committee comprising senior officers of the Somaliland Police Force has been appointed to look into the matter and determine what exactly transpired.

Additionally, the two officers who fired the shots have been taken into custody, pending the outcome of the official investigation.
